Sabattus Street Water Main Project Nears HalfWay Point

The St Laurent and Son crew is about half through the Route 126 water main replacement project. If you drive in and out of Lewiston every day, you know the stretch between Golder Road and Fox Run Drive has been under construction. Our crew is doing it’s best to keep traffic moving with as few delays as possible. We thank you for your patience and your respect for the safety of our crew.

How to Bypass Or Avoid Traffic Delays

You can bypass the traffic by accessing the Maine Turnpike at the Sabattus exit off Route 9. Or, if you can, avoid the start and end of our work days.

Our crew starts walking the excavators out to the construction site around 6:30 in the morning. In turn, they walk them back to a side street for overnight parking before they leave for the day around 5:30pm. We know it’s a busy time for commuters. If you are typically driving on Sabattus Street around these times, we urge you to add a few minutes to your commute time to be safe.

The City of Lewiston asked that the project be broken up into two parts so the unpaved trench would not stretch so long. This first half of the project will be paved with a binder coat by mid June of 2019.  The completion target is mid-September.

Project Details

The project is about two-thirds of a mile long. Our crew is excavating and installing 12” ductile iron water main at a rate of about 120 to 180 feet per day. At this rate we might get done earlier. We'd all like that!
